West
Wycombe Art Group was formed in the early 1980’s by a small group
of friends that originally met in the back room of the George and Dragon
pub in
the heart of West Wycombe village. The Group soon out-grew the pub and
moved to the village hall, where we are based today.
WWAG currently has full membership and there is waiting list of potential
new members. Our members have a variety of skills in different media
and these include watercolour, acrylic, oils, pastels, collage,
charcoal and
sculpture. We enjoy a mix of professional artists and enthusiastic amateurs.
Some of our members teach art techniques locally, while others simply
want to be part of a group and have other artistic people around
them, plus
of course time at Group meetings to be creative.
We meet each Monday evening throughout the year. Members take turns
to supply a sitter and to bring a still life, each week September
through
April. Then, during the summer months, we go out and about as a group
to different local venues to paint and sketch.
We arrange to have demonstrations, workshops and talks by guest tutors
to vary our programme and regularly visit art exhibitions and galleries.
We hold an annual exhibition each August Bank Holiday weekend, which
is the highlight of our year. Each member exhibits framed and mounted
works
or sculpture, together with prints or cards as they wish, which
are offered for sale. The exhibition is a wonderful social event
not
only for our
members but for the visitors too, many of whom come year after
year to support
their favourite artist.
Welcome to our website, which contains further information about
the Group, our artists and some examples of our work that we hope
you will
enjoy.
